Jumbo bloggers, welcome back to another one of my blogs. On Friday as you may know it was Gumboot Friday supporting Mental Health. If you don’t know what Mental Health is it when you don’t feel good about yourself and it means you can get depressed. We had a Gumboot Friday to support everyone who may be feeling that way and to raise awareness about Mental health. The person chose to wear Gumboots because when you have Mental Health problems it’s like you’re going through mud with all of the negative thoughts and not feeling good about yourself so he chose to wear Gumboots. Also because for some people when they wake up and go to where they need to be it’s like walking through mud for them. He encouraged as many people in New Zealand to wear Gumboots, The teachers and some children wore Gumboots to school.
The senior syndicate wrote positive and uplifting quotes / messages. A student in our syndicate came up with the idea to put all of our positive writing in letterboxes to make people feel like it was going to be a good day and to make them feel special, good about themselves and feel positive. We made the cards as uplifting as possible.
The idea came from one of the students in the syndicate. She entered her idea in the Healthy Puketapapa Student Questionnaire. I think it was a great idea because it will make people feel good about themselves and it would make people's day so much better. The next day our school received two emails to say how it made them feel.
This year our Inquiry topic was Hauora - Well being. Well being is when you have a healthy mind and when you feel good about yourself everyday and you think that everyday is going to be a good day. Bad Mental Health is basically the opposite of well being. I think it is 100% better to have well being because it is better for you and it means you feel good about yourself.
My opinion is that Gumboot Friday is a really important day and that we should keep having it every year. Also maybe next time we will write pass it on and so that everyone can have the feeling of what it is like to feel uplifted. Gumboot Friday is very important and I think that if we have it next year we will raise even more money than this time. Here is a link to the donations page. Here are some photos.
