Summer Learning Journey Day 1 Week 1

Explorers

Here we are the first Summer Learning, for this one we had to list ten foods that would be good for us to take if we went on an ocean voyage. You also had to say why you would take that food with you. You weren't allowed a freezer or fridge to keep things cold. Here is what I would take with me.

Discovering Aotearoa

For this activity we had to think about our experiences and cultural background. Also where our family comes from.

All of my family that I live with is from New Zealand. But my Grandma is from channel island (Guernsey) my other grandma is moari. Also my Grandpa is Spanish and my other Grandpa is Scottish. I really like that most of my family is a different clture which means we get to travle and vist them which I really like.

Scaling new heights

Sir Edmund hillary made a charity which helped bring clean water to the people of Nepal which is where Mt Everest is. So for this activity we had to research about a charity, I chose to research about the SPCA because I love animals and I think that it is very cool what they do. They take in the hurt and wounded animals and look after them and make sure that they are well looked after. The SPCA has helped 40k animals and desexed and micro chipped 29.6k. They make sure every animal is looked after and given shelter. But lately they have had to take in heaps of animals so they are encouraging people to desex there pets because they don't want to run out of room for all of the animals. This is why I really like what the SPCA does helping the animals.

  1. Mōrena Zoe,

My name is Kueni and I am one of the blog commenters working with the Summer Learning Journey(SLJ) this summer. Can you believe it is almost time to go back to school? So weird, I feel like these holidays have just flown by so fast!

Kei te pai on completing all 3 activities of Week one, Day one of the Summer Learning Journey. You have put so much hard work and such a great effort into this blog post.

Firstly, thank you so much for sharing the 10 foods you would take with you on an ocean voyage with great voyager Nainoa. I like that you have chosen a nice healthy, balanced variety of foods to take with you. I especially like how well you have explained why you would bring each food item with you, ka pai!

Secondly, I really enjoyed reading about you, your family and where you came from. I always enjoy learning about new people and what makes them who they are. Can you speak any other languages such as Maori or Spanish?

Thirdly, what an awesome explanation you have put together for the SPCA charity. They do so much fine work with animals all across the country and I would love to one day be apart of their work.

Keep up the hard work Zoe, I look forward to reading more of your blog posts!

    Ka kite,
    Kueni :)
