Summer Learning Journey day 2 Week 1

Up in the Air

HI bloggers, for this activity we had to do a compare and contrast between Amelia Earheart and Jane Batten. I didn't actually know about Jane Batten so I found it interesting finding out about her, though I did know a little bit about Amelia Earheart becasue I had seen her on a night at the museum. Here is my compare and contrast.

One Small Step For Man

In this activity we had to write any kind of poem we like, but you had to imagion that you were Neil Armsrong and you were first to step on the moon. You also had to include what it felt like. I chose to write a free verse poem because it is my favourite kind. I like to write free verse poems because there are no limits. Here is my poem.

First landing

Speeding through the sky
day and night
Only hoping for success
Hooray Hooray we made it
Then it was time
I stepped slowly down the ladder
I felt overjoyed but nervous
I was on the moon
First ever to make it
It was truly amazing
But like always
there had to be an ending
Just like that
I was hopping on to the Rocket
Wondering, would I ever come back

Miracle on the Hudson

In this activty we had to recall a time when you or someone you know was brave. A time when I remember I was brave was when me and my family went to Mt Ruapehu and I was on a ski track that I didn't know and I was speeding down when I came to a sharp corner which was also a cliff. I went straight into the corner and under the fence. Luckily I caught onto wire and was able to pull my self up but if I didn't catch that I would have fallen of the cliff. I also snapped my ski, bendt one of my poles and hurt my foot. That was the time when I was brave.

  1. Mālō e lelei Zoe, how is your day going?

Ka pai on completing all of the activities for day two! What was your favourite part about doing this activity?

Firstly, I like how you’ve made a clear venn diagram, it is informative and easy to read. Thanks for sharing that information about Jean Batten and Amelia Earhart. They were both pretty amazing women weren’t they!? Did you know that Jean would take a silk dress with her on her flights, so that she could look beautiful wherever she landed!

Have you been on a plane before? If you have, where did you go? Do you think you’d like to fly a plane if you had the chance to?

Secondly, I really like your poem about being on the moon, it’s unique and I can really feel how Neil Armstrong may have felt when he first landed on the moon.

Thirdly, wow it sounded like you were super brave in that moment! I’m glad you were okay! Have you been skiing since that incident? I grew up in a place called Wanaka in the South Island so I learnt how to ski when I was younger and I absolutely love it! It’s such an amazing feeling, but yes I agree it can be a bit scary and dangerous sometimes.

Have a fantastic day and thanks for posting.

    Eliza :)
