Day three week one SLJ

Summer learning journey

Activity one

fantastic beasts

For this activity we have to make up our own beast .We have to describe what it looks like, what it feels like, what it sounds like and what it smells like. We have to be very descriptive. Here is my description.

My beast is a bear it's isn't a beast most of the time. Sometimes it is a cute cuddly little friend. It is a small bear it only grows halve a meter long and a quarter meter long. It is purple when it is in a good mood  and red when it is in a bad mood. It is soft and furry when it is in a good mood and smells of sweets like ice cream and fairy floss but when it's in a bad mood it's fur goes all spiky and smells like a pile of chillies. When this small creature get angry it turns in to a big beast it grows and can make you scream it will attempt to kill you but it never will it will just really scare you. Then when it goes back in to a good mood. It will be like nothing even happened everything will go back to normal.

Activity two

The secretive skink

For this activity  you list three pros (good things) and three cons (bad things) about working as a DOC (department of conservation) ranger. Also at the end you say if you would like to be a DOC ranger or not. Here is my list of pros and cons.

pros

  1. you get to work with all of the reptiles and I think that would be very fun.
  2. you know that you are helping another species .
  3. It's a different but fun job to most other jobs.
cons

  1. It might get a bit stressful sometimes.
  2. I will be very hard work trying to keep a species alive.
  3. You will have to be at work for a long time.
even though a DOC ranger would be hard I think it would be really cool and fun if I were a DOC ranger so that means I would choose to have that as a job.

Bonus activity three

The WWF: world wildlife fund

For this activity you had read an artical then you had to make full sentences about the differences between African and Asian elephants. Here is what I think.

There are many differences between the African and Asian elephant. First off the Asian elephants are a lot smaller than the African elephant in fact the African elephant is the biggest mammal living on land. Second the African elephants ears are large fan shaped ears and the Asian elephants ears are straight at the bottom. Very few male Asian elephants have tusks. But all African elephants have tusks even the female ones. Elephants are either right of left tusked the one they usually use is smaller because it gets worn out. The Asian elephant has four toes on it's hind foot and five on it's forefoot but the African elephant has three on it's hind foot and five on it's fore foot.

  1. Kia ora Zoe,

Happy New Year! It looks like you have been busy doing lots of activities. I really like how you have been bunching all 3 activities from a day onto one post. This is super helpful as it is easier for our team to track how many activities you have done.

    Activity 1:
What a fascinating beast that you have created. When he is in a good mood he sounds like the kind of bear that I would wan't to snuggle in bed. However, the beautiful scent of ice cream, sweets, and fairy floss would make me hungry, so maybe it would't be a good idea to take him to bed. I wouldn't want to make your bear angry though, he sounds like he would give me nightmares. What kind of movie do you think he would be in? He sounds like he would fit right into Mosters Inc.

    Activity 2:
You have thought of some great reason why being a DOC ranger would be a great job. I agree with you, it would be so rewarding working with animals knowing that you are making a difference and bringing many animals back from extinction. I think I would love to be a DOC ranger because you get to work outside in the beautiful scenery of New Zealand, and get to patrol remote locations which many New Zealanders would never have visited before. Protecting native animals and reptiles would be an incredibly rewarding job. If you were to be a doc ranger, what animal or reptile would you be the most excited to protect?

Well done Zoe! You have put together some incredible responses to day three's activities. I am extremely impressed with the effort you have been putting into your posts. Keep up the awesome work.

    Kindest regards,
    Megan :)
